If so, then you have been adware-ised. I can link it to addition of "unscrupulous" unkown individuals on MSN (guys, if some unkown chick adds you on MSN Messenger, it could be a virus; or worse, a BOT, trust me :P). Once they gain access to your MSN Messenger, from there they can easily get your password (if you set your MSN to "remember password").
 
So, what to do in this crappy situation?
 
First of all; damage control.
 
The email will be sent to ALL your contacts, everyone you ever sent an email to. And if they follow the link, boom, they are infected to. A nation of PC Zombies.
 
This adware, its not really a virus as it does not destroy your computer or corrupt your files, it just uses it for nefarious purposes, is smart. It penetrates deep into your e-mail and even adjusts your "on holiday" response, your signature, the whole enchilada. Start by re-setting these to their defaults.
 
Step 2; Scan your PC via Housecall Online Scan
 
Step 3; Remove any and all infections found (duh!)


Step 4; Go back to your inbox, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD

trust me, I hated this too, I've had my password ever since I opened my account, but, alas, I was stupid, and I am paying the price for my stupidity.

Step 5; Disable "remember my password" on MSN Messenger

And bada-bing, your adware free :)

Before following any link, anywhere, whether its sent to your email, your mobile, or even posted on your facebook wall, ask yourself this question: Does my friend who sent me this, or posted this to my wall, really talk like that? The emails sound forced, and are generated by BOTS.

With that simple question, you will spare yourself alot of hassle.
And also, Please do NOT email the emails mentioned in italic :D

My first Retraction: The 3 Club are A-Ok!

There comes a time in every writers (?) life where they must man up and admit they are mistaken.

Yesterday I blogged about how upset I was with The 3 Club over my "rejection letter". I was not, as it seemed, rejected based on my athletic prowess. It was a case of my misreading an email, and jumping to conclusions.

So, I received a call today whilst at my desk diligently working. It was punch-out time, but I called back.


It was The 3 Club! Apparently, they read what I wrote. Now that means one of 3 things:

a) Kuwait is REALLY small and someone who knows someone who knows someone at The 3 Club read it and told them.

b) I'm very good at picking key words or am really good at writing.

c) The 3 Club have Twitter.

I'm guessing its a mixture of a & c!

So, my caller was very quick to reassure me that I was not rejected based on my merits, but on my nationality, as I had apparently enrolled mistakenly into a Kuwaitis only program that had nothing to do with triathlons.

Boy is my face red.

Now, she was not upset at the post, nor did she ask me to remove it, I did so of my own accord.

The 3 Club have amazing PR, and incredible interpersonal skills.

I was wrong about them. Entirely.

I have been invited to tour their facility on thursday. One more homage to their customer relations.

Glad to know companies in Kuwait REALLY CARE about what people have to say, even if they are, misinformed.

ALTHOUGH, I stick by my comment of the picture; it really is 25MB large, and can so easily be made into a much smaller JPG.

Other than that, I apologise to The 3 Club.

Kuwait Health Camp - Shed the Pounds! AYMSTRONG

On the heels of the recent news of the allowance for each of the 1.12 million native citizens to get KD1,000 in cash as well as free essential food items until March 31, 2012, in a bid to stem rising food prices for CITIZENS.

However, The 2.4 million foreign residents of Kuwait are excluded from the grant and the free food. Sucks to be an expat. No free food.

Anyhoo, I digress, on the heels of this recent news, another group has arisen to help tackle the obesity issue that is plaguing Kuwait.

CNN (a newsite I have since boycotted) has put the obesity levels in Kuwait as being as high as 75%.

One group has decided to battle the bulge, fight the fat, tackle the tummies and abolish the bellies (phew!)..

Stock Trade 101 - Sold my first shares on the Kuwait Stock Echange!

Ok, I am really excited and doing cartwheels at the moment.

I just sold my first lot of shares on the Kuwait Stock Exchange, for 200% returns!

People gotta fly, and airplane companies gotta lease planes, so on that note, I would like to thank ALAFCO (Aviation Leasing & Financing Co.) for making this possible for me.

A year or so ago, I decided to venture with a small amount of money onto the stock exchange of Kuwait, it was an amount that I would not mind losing, or having tied up for an extended period of time.

If you go back a couple of months, you will find I gave people pointers on how to invest in Kuwait. Now I will tell you how to sell.

You can buy stocks without the assistance of a broker easily online. Selling is the tricky part.

You have to call a number. I use Union Securities Brokerage Co. (USBC - 1837777) because they allow you to open an account for any amount you choose, unlike NBK Capital, the greedy slime, who require a minimum of KD5,000.

There are two markets in the stock exchange that I wish to talk about, Round lot and Odd lot. Round lot means multiples of 1,000+ (high value), Odd lot is a lot less than 1,000 (for example, 233 shares, perfect for the average Joe Six-Pack).

People kept telling me you can buy shares on the Odd lot market easily, but selling will be difficult. I am here to say, not so.

I called up the broker and placed my order, she asked me to call back in 5 minutes, I took a wee (pun intended) bit longer, and as I viewed this (Kuwait stock exchange odd lot order book), I found that my shares were on display, and a buyer was making a counter-offer (haggling), so she told me I was late in calling back, and that the buyer wants them for so-&-so. I reduced my original price to entice them, and BOOM! next thing I know, upon hitting refresh, my shares are gone. I get a call immediately from the broker telling me the transaction was executed. And I am not doubly richer than when I first brought the stock.

A year ago, I purchased the ALAFCO shares for 0.176fils, today, I sold them for 0.360fils. If my maths with the 200% is faulty, forgive me, but I doubled my original investment. And that is a rate of return beyond that offered by banks (interest is less than or equal to 1% right now).

Christianity & Islam - Bridging the Gap in Egypt

You would have to be living under a rock to not have heard of the recent heinous attacks in Alexandria at the start of the New Year targetting a Coptic Church.

What you may or may not know, depending on whether you are on facebook and whether or not you have Egyptian friends on facebook, is that the country is slowly being segregated into muslims who sympathise with the victims families, and christians (coptics) who want retribution.

You would be familiar with the following picture being used as a profile pic:

Now, the one thing I do not understand is, the Muslim population, the majority, have changed their display pictures in solidarity for the public outcry against terror, claiming we are all one (as the picture says).

Whilst our Coptic counterparts are using this:

Granted. They are grieving, as a consensus, they are mourning.

However, I feel as though the Muslims of Egypt are trying to show solidarity, whilst the Coptics want to use this as an excuse to further stigmatise themselves from the Egyptian populace and demand a global outcry against Islam in general, citing oppression.

It is not a strange sight in Egypt to find Churches with security and police outside, whilst Mosques are left unsupervised and unsecured.

When has it become a norm for Islam to be linked to terrorism?

Why are we so quick to draw dividing lines, instead of coming together and communicating as one?
Why is that the Muslims must be blamed as a whole for the acts of vile, godless, deluded, individuals?
Why must WE defend ourselves everytime a terrorist attacks in the deluded name of Jihad?
Why must we ENDURE the scrutinising looks of all non-muslims who believe all muslims to be nothing but uneducated goat-herders, with an oil well somewhere?

This is a prime example.

I detest terrorist acts. I view them as cowardly. As do the rest of Muslims all over the world. Islam has the same view on suicide as Christianity does, people cannot differentiate between martyrdom and suicide, they are NOT one and the same.

The acts of these sick individuals should not put Islam on the defensive.

Ignorance breeds Hate, Hate breeds Fear.

Break the cycle, open your eyes.

I'm not one to indulge in forwards, but this one touched me deeply.

I arrived at the address and honked the horn.

after waiting a few minutes

I walked to the door and knocked..

'Just a minute', answered a frail, elderly voice.

I could hear something being dragged across the floor.

 

After a long pause, the door opened.

A small woman in her 90's stood before me.

She was wearing a print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned

on it, like somebody out of a 1940's movie.

By her side was a small nylon suitcase.

The apartment looked as if no one had lived in it for years.

All the furniture was covered with sheets.

There were no clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils on the counters.

In the corner was a cardboard box filled with photos and

glassware.

'Would you carry my bag out to the car?' she said.

I took the suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the

woman.

She took my arm and we walked slowly toward the curb.

She kept thanking me for my kindness.

'It's nothing', I told her..

'I just try to treat my passengers

the way I would want my mother to be treated.'

'Oh, you're such a good boy, she said.

When we got in the cab, she gave me an address and then asked,

'Could you drive through downtown?'

 

'It's not the shortest way,' I answered quickly..

 

'Oh, I don't mind,' she said.

'I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a

 hospice. (place for terminally ill patients)

I looked in the rear-view mirror.

Her eyes were glistening.

'I don't have any family left,' she continued in a soft voice..

'The doctor says I don't have very long.'

I quietly reached over and shut off the meter.

For the next two hours, we drove through the city.

She showed me the building where she had once worked as an

elevator operator.

We drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived

when they were newlyweds.

She had me pull up in front of a furniture warehouse that had once

been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl.

Sometimes she'd ask me to slow

in front of a particular building or corner and

would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.

As the first hint of sun was

creasing the horizon, she suddenly said, 'I'm tired. Let's go now'.

We drove in silence to the address she had given me.

It was a low building, like a small convalescent home,

with a driveway that passed under a portico.

Two orderlies came out to

the cab as soon as we pulled up. They were

solicitous and intent, watching her every move.

They must have been expecting her.

I opened the trunk and took the small suitcase to

the door. The woman was already seated in a wheelchair.

 

'How much do I owe you?'

She asked, reaching into her purse.

'Nothing,' I said

'You have to make a living,' she answered.

'There are other passengers,' I responded.

Almost without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug.

She held onto me tightly.

'You gave an old woman a little moment of joy,'

she said.

'Thank you.'

 

I squeezed her

hand, and then walked into the dim morning light..

Behind me, a door shut.

It was the sound of the closing of a life..

I didn't pick up any more passengers that shift.

I drove aimlessly lost in thought.

For the rest of that day, I could hardly talk.

What if that woman had gotten an angry driver, or one who was impatient

to end his shift?

What

if I had refused to take the run, or had honked once, then driven away?

On a quick review, I don't think that I have done anything

more important in my life.

We're conditioned to think that our lives revolve

around great moments.

But great moments often catch us unaware-beautifully

wrapped in what others may consider a small one.

 

PEOPLE MAY NOT REMEMBER EXACTLY

WHAT YOU DID, OR WHAT YOU SAID

2011 - In the News

Ok, some of this is not exactly NEW but by golly it is FUNNY.

Gotta love the Arab Times:

What would you do?: A woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, has filed a complaint with the police accusing her husband of deliberately damaging her car and beating her, reports Al-Rai daily.



A police source said this happened when the husband caught a glimpse of the woman driving along the Arabian Gulf Street. She had put on the radio and some youths following her were dancing to the tune of the music inside their vehicles and the wife was looking at them and giggling.


The husband called her on her cell phone but she neglected him and continued driving so he chased her and crashed into her car when she reached the home of her parents in Bayan.


The husband got down from his car and beat her until passersby came to the rescue of the wife and separated the couple.


The couple has been referred to the Rumaithiya Police Station.


Hmm, what would YOU do? Run it from both sides, the husband, and the non-shy wife.

Watchman ‘woos’ maid: Police arrested the watchman of a building for allegedly trying to molest a housemaid in South Surra area. The maid told her sponsor that the man showed his private parts to her and attempted to molest her. The sponsor called police who immediately arrested the watchman and registered a case against him.



So when you moon someone, you show 'em your rear end, what about the twig & berries? Crude, but gets his point across doesn't he?

Maid attempts suicide: A 21-year-old Ethiopian housemaid tried to commit suicide by swallowing a large number of tablets in the house of her sponsor in Saad Al-Abdullah.



Securitymen and paramedics rushed to the scene after receiving a call from the housemaid’s sponsor. They took the woman to Jahra Hospital.


A case was registered and investigations are in progress to determine the actual circumstances that prompted the woman to try to end her own life.


How tragic is it to be still reading news articles such as these, in 2011? When will people realise, it is not an airborne disease that is causing maids to go crazy, it is the treamtent, or rather, maltreatment, at the hands of their inhumane "captors" in this modern-day slavery portrayal.

The Appeals Court upheld the verdict of a lower court which sentenced a Kuwaiti woman to 10 years in jail for killing her housemaid with kitchenware.



Case papers indicate that the woman’s husband stated that she always had quarrels with the maid and that they decided to return the maid back to the domestic personnel office. The husband said he received a call on the day of the incident from his wife who said the maid was not willing to do any work and that a heated argument ensued between her and the maid. He rushed home to see the maid trying to mutter her last words. She breathed her last soon after.

Nothing can undo the death of this poor woman, however, it is good to know that something is being done in Kuwait to combat this. Human rights violations WILL NOT go unpunished.
Girl regular eloper: The girl who was reportedly kidnapped from her house by her bedoun boyfriend is said to have had left the house of her own accord, reports Al-Rai daily quoting security sources.



The sources added investigations conducted by securitymen revealed on three earlier occasions the girl had eloped with the bedoun and she was returned to her family.


The sources also said the couple is believed to be hiding in one of the livestock pens in Kabad. She will be again returned to her family.

Girl must have a barn-yard fetish.

Egyptian Sex Maniac brought to book: KUWAIT CITY, Oct 12: Police have arrested an Egyptian man for luring a Kuwaiti woman to commit immoral act, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.

The arrest came when the man was distributing leaflets to residents of Nugra. When he came in contact with the victim he allegedly began to flirt with her and used indecent words.

The woman sought the help of a Syrian woman, her neighbor, and handed the man over to the police.


According to reports the man attempted to escape but the Syrian screamed for help and neighbors wrestled the man to the ground and beat him.

Ok, how exactly is he a sex maniac for flirting with a woman? Way to blow a story out of proportion AT. Another FAIL.

Meanwhile, police are looking for an unidentified person for flirting with an unidentified woman while the latter was waiting for her husband, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.

How helpful, an identified person (male, female, child?) flirted with an unidentified woman... perhaps you should IDENTIFY them first before writing about it!

It has been reported the woman was waiting for her husband who had gone shopping and the suspect approached her car and tried to attract her attention. When she refused his ‘advances’ he allegedly opened the door of the car and threw a piece of paper in the car with his telephone numbers written on it. The wife gave the paper to her husband and the latter filed a complaint with the Jahra Police Station.


Lover runs away naked on the road: A young Ethiopian woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, has been arrested by police for drinking alcohol, running naked on a road and having sex with a married man, reports Al-Rai daily.


According to reports the woman was picked by a police patrol. The woman was naked and patrolmen gave her cloth to cover her body and at first thought she was mad. When she was taken to the police station, police discovered she was drunk.


However, when she became sober she told police she was having sex with an unidentified man inside his apartment in the area and when the man’s wife caught him red-handed having sex, she threw both of them out of the apartment.


She added she was frightened the wife would harm her and ran for her life. Police are looking for the husband. Police investigations are continuing.

Securitymen arrested 16 expatriates for violating the Residency Law and for their involvement in various crimes in Hawalli and Salmiya Sunday.



During a surprise security campaign launched in both areas, the securitymen rounded up 16 expatriates with expired residence permits and others wanted by law for their involvement in different crimes.


They were referred to the concerned security department for the prosecution.

Like the cops are supposed to advertise that "we are going to be checking for illegals HERE @ SAID TIME?
I just got a mental image of illegals walking in the streets, coming by a big box, and the cops jump out and yell SURPRISE! show us some IDs!

And, Last but not least, the Piece De Resistance:

Girl beaten in mall: A girl has filed a complaint against two cross-dressers who allegedly attacked her inside a famous mall in Hawally.



The girl told police she had an argument with the suspects who assaulted her. She presented a medical report to substantiate her claim and police summoned the suspects for questioning.


A case was registered and investigations are ongoing to verify the girl’s complaint.

Cross-dressers are back, and they're not gonna take it anymore!
