oh yes indeed, i have seen some peoples ideas for tattoos, and ive seen the skinless people who look like a walking pile of ink :P

theres a more philosophical reasoning behind tattoos being prohibited, i am just not sure of it 100%.

i'll share it anyway.

lets say a man is married and is fasting, he touches his wife, which i think would require him to yt6hr, the ink covers the skin, preventing water from "touching" it, hence his 6hara is not valid, hence his prayers henceforth are invalid.

something along those lines.

people cite that as a loophole, in the end, it is between said person and god, c'est vrai?

"he judges the heart before he saves the soul"

love it :D

indeed, in arabic they say الاعمال بالنيات or as we said, it is according to your inner idea.

there are several stories to that respect; the prostitute who was granted heaven for feeding a starving cat, and the story of the brothers (or friends), one of which was a drunkard, the other was sanctimonious. the drunkard would always ask his brother/friend for favors, until one time that person tells him god will NEVER accept your penance. his good deeds were given to the drunkard, and he was punished.

it is not for anyone to judge, for god is all merciful. and like u said, if someone truly repents, it is accepted.

i wonder if the police would care enough to "sting" him/her. send an email from a person pretending to want a tattoo, then catch him in the act like they do with prostitution rings, drug smugglers and alcohol boot-leggers..

SHEEEEESH......why the hell is tattooing illegal??? if someone does something haram, it is their problem and business, and moreover their concern. why should the government or police worry about someone's soul
